I’ve been almost overwhelmed by the momentum pushing SFBC forward. Everywhere I go, speak, ride, people ask me when they can join and if we’ll consider working on any one of a variety of issues: Complete Streets, Bike Miami Days / Open Streets, a specific bike lane project, expanding the Ride Right/Drive Right Campaign, selling our beloved bike pins… and it goes on and on. It’s actually really exciting.
So, in time for the Radio Green Earth show on Saturday, March 27, we plan to have our membership and donations pages up and running. Members will get… a bike pin! Membership card! And more! Oh yes, we’re having fun putting together the goody bags already. Of course, the biggest perk will be knowing that you were part of founding the first organization of its kind here in South Florida. Your support helps us reach our goal of 500 members in our first year. Your membership directly promotes better bicycling in our counties and tells local leaders and policy makers to count on you, and us, to make South Florida a better, more bikable place to live, work and visit.
That’s not all we’re working on, of course. Tonight is a meeting of the Smart Growth Parternship‘s Complete Streets Task Force. I’ve been invited to help strategize a way to bring Open Streets/ciclovias/Bike Miami Days program into the expanding toolkit local advocates, planners and politicians use to create livable communities and foster smart growth. I’m working on my presentation right now and will let you know how it went tomorrow.
In the meantime, if you’re reading this, I hope you’ll be able to join the Miami Open Streets Team (MOST) at their regularly scheduled Tuesday meeting at the Wallflower Gallery/Downtown Miami at 6pm. Bike Miami Days is barely a month away and we need your help to make it the best ever. MOST is looking for volunteers and sponsors who will provide music and activities, promotional materials and any other in-kind donations that you can provide. For more information, email MOST here or call Collin Worth, City of Miami Bicycle Coordinator, at 305.416.1022.
One more thing ~ we’re now on Flickr! Check out our pictures at www.flickr.com/SFBikeCoalition. We’ll be adding more all the time.
