The South Florida Bike Coalition is dedicated to empowering you to advocate for yourself and better bicycling by providing good information, introducing you to policymakers and fellow activists and creating new opportunities for collaboration within and across communities. Our goals our huge, our vision is… longterm, our optimism and dedication are indefatigable. But, we need YOU.
We need you to tell us what you are doing– so that we can help you when you get doors closed on you, share your successes with others who need to hear it and most importantly, so we can all learn together. Currently, the South Florida Bike Coalition leadership is one full-time staff member (me, Kathryn Moore, SFBC Exec. Director), ten board members, a handful of active and dedicated community leaders we work with and YOU, our members and friends. We are all here, as individuals as well as “The SFBC” to ride behind you.
South Florida is a bureaucratic mess of jumbled jurisdictions, potholes both literal and figurative, misinformation and miscommunication that makes our work to improve and increase bicycling an epic challenge. We won’t give up – please don’t give up on us. We will always suggest that you call 311 (in Miami-Dade) when you see a bike lane a mess – even though we know that it doesn’t always work the first time. 311 is the best tool we have for navigating Miami-Dade’s bureaucracy, but if the person who answers your call doesn’t have it together, your complaint may not be addressed. Please, let us know! We will follow up for you. I or an SFBC volunteer will obsessively follow up on your complaint and bring it to the local press if normal channels don’t work. In Broward, you can call 954-357-6641 for bicycle related inquiries or complaints and in Palm Beach County, you can call 561.233.3950 (if the road is city or state, they promise us to kindly help you through the process of getting your information to the right people).
In any county – you can call us directly. (305.982.7343) We want to help you be the activist but we are here if you need us to resolve your issues, in part or completely, instead.
Success or roadblock, SFBC thanks you for telling us what you went through so we can best prioritize our work on your behalf.
