Get certified, insured and equipped to teach anything from basic skills to college level courses, motorist education classes to group riding skills for your club. The Bike Coalition is bringing the League of American Bicyclists to Miami, Florida this January 14-16 to offer their national League Certified Instructor training course over the weekend.
League Certified Instructors (LCIs) are experts in bicycle education and safety. LCIs teach independently (freelance) and offer classes through schools, parks, bike shops and clubs. You’ll not only get certified to teach a variety of classes, you’ll get access to a network of resources including videos and training models, tips and listserves exclusive to LCIs.
Maybe you are already the person everyone you know goes to for tips on riding and bicycling maintenance – why not get certified so you can be paid, insured and best prepared to improve and increase bicycling in your community?
We’re proud to bring this program to South Florida but the course is entirely directed by the League of American Bicyclists and these are their strict prerequisites for anyone taking the class:
– You must have taken Traffic Skills 101, a day-long $35 class. We can offer this to those interested but need to know ASAP so we can provide an instructor at a time that works for everyone (BEFORE December 23).
-You must be a member of the League. Membership is $35.
-You must Register As Soon As Possible. This class has a maximum number of students. Some will come from far away to take it and registration is through the League, not the Bike Coalition. The 3 day on-road and classroom-based course is $200.
We hope to have this class fully booked by December 23. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 305.982.7343. I’ll be taking the course, too, and look forward to starting 2011 with a weekend of better bicycling. Hope to see you there.
NOTE: This class is open to anyone who meets the prerequisites. We have already received registrations from out-of-towners and appreciate anyone who would come forward to offer homestays, loaner bikes or suggested hotels near the Coral Gables course location of the University of Miami Law School campus. Thank you!
UPDATE: There is one last opportunity to get your required TS101 certification so that you can get your LCI – it’s scheduled for Sunday, December 19. Please register asap.
